Home Membership About the Club
The Columbia Basin Fly Casters is an organization dedicated to the sport of fly fishing.  We are interested in developing the sport and preserving the waters and habitat that make fishing possible. The Club was formed by a small group of fly fishers in 1978, and has continued to grow to our present count of over 100 members.  Our membership is comprised of fly fishers, young and old, men and women, experts and beginners, who all have a broad range of interest and backgrounds.

The club meets the second Tuesday of each month (except during July and August).  We are currently meeting at the Bamboo Gardens that is located near Ranch and Home, just off of Columbia Center.  To confirm the meeting location, visit our website, http://www.columbiabasinflycasters.org/.   Many members come early to socialize during the “Wet Fly” which starts at 6:00 p.m.  The “Wet Fly” is followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.  The dinner is priced at $13 per person, but you are welcome to come for just the program that is always free and underway at approximately 7:10 p.m.

Free Classes Offered To Members

In an effort to promote fly-fishing in our local community, we sponsor fly-tying and rod-building classes that are free to members.  Non-members are welcome, but there may be a nominal charge to cover expenses.  The club can also offer an introductory fly-casting class. The fly-tying classes are taught by several of our members who will teach multiple patterns that have proven successful in our local fisheries.  The rod building classes are offered in the spring and teach the basics and advanced ways of the unique art of rod building.

Monthly Newsletter

A monthly newsletter is published to keep you informed on what’s happening, including meeting information and other items of interest.  The newsletter is mailed to members and available on our website.

Club Outings

Each year, we have several Club outings.  These special events give our members a chance to fish with some of the best fly fishers in this area.  Club members are exceptional in sharing information and taking time to demonstrate fishing techniques.  Three of the popular outings include our annual trips to the Crooked River in Central Oregon (May), Leech late (early summer) and Anthony Lakes (September).  Other destinations have included Rocky Ford, Lenore Lake, Dry Falls, Rock Creek (Montana), Tucannon River, and the Deschutes (Oregon).  The club attempts to schedule 6 to 8 outings per year and welcomes member suggestions on new places to fish.

Conservation Efforts

As a Club, we are actively involved in providing funding and volunteers to help with programs and projects that help us reserve, protect, and restore the fisheries and habitats that we all share.
